Course delivery method
Online format. This is a self-learning option, using WSET's online classroom. You will have weekly learning and private study to complete for 9 consecutive weeks. Your exam will be held 2 weeks after the online learning finishes. You will receive your textbook 4 weeks before the online learning begins, allowing you to start your study. Our wine educator will also provide 3 live online tastings, 1 online exam workshop, and 1 mock exam. You must attend the live tastings, mock exam and exam in person. Further details below.
Students need access to their own laptop or desktop computer, and a good internet connection for this course.
Course description
This is an advanced qualification and a substantial amount of study is required to be successful in the exam. Before registering, please carefully read through the details below and ensure you can commit to the required amount of study.
There is a total of 84 hours of study for this qualification, made up of:
- 32.5 self-guided learning hours using the online platform. A minimum of 3.6 hours per week.
- 51.5 hours of private study. A minimum of 5.7 hours per week.
- Your total time commitment will be a minimum of 10 hours per week. Many students need much more than this.
The WSET Level 2 in Wines qualification is a pre-requisite for this course.
Course schedule
Online intro meeting: Tuesday 16th of June 2026, 9:30am to 10:30am (students attend online from their own device)
Online learning starts: Monday 6th of July 2026 (students do this from their own device)
Weekly self-learning to complete: 9 modules, over 9 weeks.
Private study to be completed weekly.
Live group tasting sessions (students attend as a group, in person, at our Samuel Smith & Son office in Footscray):

Exam: Thursday 17th of September 2026, 9:30am - 12:30pm (students attend as a group, in person, at our Samuel Smith & Son office in Footscray)
Location
Students must attend the live group tastings and mock exam in person at our Samuel Smith & Son office in Footscray. All other sessions will be done online, on the student's own device.

You will have access to all wines required to complete your course work. Should you wish to purchase additional wines, this is completely optional. We will provide you access to our online portal and a list of recommendations.
